But how should you pray for your future husband? Can you pray for a specific person to become your husband? And what does the Bible say about praying for a husband?
I’ve spent years praying for my future husband and I share the same bible verses and prayers that I prayed as I waited on God to bring me my now husband.

While we know that it’s important to pray about everything in our lives, praying for your future spouse and over your future marriage is so important.
God loves marriage, he created it after all, and who you marry is the second biggest decision you’ll ever make after making the decision to follow Jesus.
As you start to pray for your future husband, I would start by sharing the desires already on your heart.
Do you have a desire to get married? Do you like someone or have desires for a certain guy that you know?
How do you feel about being single right now? Are you afraid that God has forgotten about you, and you are questioning whether you will ever get married?
Sharing your thoughts, feelings, and fears to God in prayer is powerful. He already knows what you are feeling anyway, but when you surrender your desires and thoughts to him through prayer, it allows you to experience his peace and sets you up to pray with more faith.
As you think about praying for your future husband, pray over specific areas that God puts on your heart.
You can use the example prayers for your future husband below as a guide, but it’s important to pray over the specific desires and areas that God has put on your heart.
As I talk about in how God wrote my love story, I prayed specifically for this one guy that I liked at church for an entire year before he asked me out.
Waiting for God to confirm the desires on my heart for an entire year was not easy, but God taught me how to constantly surrender my desires and feelings to Him in prayer.
And even when I felt frustrated and praying for my future husband would bring me to tears , I always felt better after telling God how I felt through prayer.
To get started, here are some ways you can start praying for your future husband.
The best way to ask God for your future husband is through prayer! The Bible tells us to pray about everything, and to make our requests known to God.
"Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done." - Philippians 4:6 NLT
God hears your prayers and he cares about the desires on your heart.
As you ask God for your future husband through prayer, praise him and thank him in advance for the Godly love story that he is already writing!
The Bible tells us to pray and make our requests known to God through prayer. There are several bible verses about coming to God through prayer and asking for the desires on our hearts, which includes a desire for a husband.
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” – Matthew 7:7-8
“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” – Mark 11:24
“Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.” – John 16:24
There are also examples in the Bible where people prayed to God for a spouse.
In Genesis 24, Abraham sent his servant to go find a wife from his homeland for his son, Isaac. The servant prayed that God would show him who Isaac’s future wife was, and Rebekah appeared before he even finished praying.
And then we have the story of Ruth and Boaz in the book of Ruth. While the Bible doesn’t explicitly tell us that Ruth and Naomi were praying for a future husband, we can only imagine the prayers they prayed for Ruth to find a new husband as Ruth ended up working in Boaz’s field.
If you like someone or have desires for someone in particular, I would absolutely pray and ask God to confirm the desires on your heart.
Instead of praying and asking for this guy to become your husband, I would pray and ask God for clarity on the desires on your heart and for God to confirm if he’s the one.
Pray and ask God to confirm the desires on your heart, and that if this guy is your future husband, that God will confirm it and that this guy will know that you’re his future wife.
Pray and ask God to only give you desires for your future husband, and that if this guy is not the one, then pray and ask God that he would take away these desires if this guy wasn’t the one.
I prayed these prayers A LOT as I prayed and asked God to confirm the desires on my heart for the guy at church that I liked.
There were times my husband didn’t seem interested in me, so I would pray for God to take away my feelings for him if he wasn’t my future husband.
But my feelings never went away, and God eventually confirmed that he was the one.
As you pray for your future husband, God may put different scriptures or bible verses on your heart depending on what you are praying for.
Here are 3 scriptures that I prayed the most when I prayed for my future husband:
"Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need."
Pray that as you seek God and live righteously, that God will provide your every need, including your future husband.
“And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength."
Pray that your future husband loves God with all his heart, mind and soul. Pray that he has a strong relationship with God and is growing closer to God each day as a man after God’s own heart.
“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” - Psalm 37:4
Pray that as you seek God’s will for your life and marriage, that God will give you his desires for your life, including the desires for the future husband that he has for you.
And pray that as you take delight in God, that God will grant the desires he’s put on your heart and will bring you your future husband.
As you pray for your godly husband, keep these 3 things in mind to make sure your prayers are effective.
There is no specific formula for praying for your future husband.
Your prayers are between you and God so it’s important to find a way to pray for your future husband that works for you.
If you prefer to write your prayers in a prayer journal, go for it.
If you want to establish a time of day to pray for your future spouse and marriage every day, find a time or routine that works for you.
If you want accountability and want to pray for your godly husband with your friends, set up time each week to pray intentionally over your future husbands.
But if it’s too painful to pray for your future husband or if you feel worse about being single after prayer, then don’t force it.
Pray and ask God how much you should be praying for your future husband and how often. God will prompt you to pray for your future husband and future marriage by putting it on your heart.
While God tells us to come to him in prayer for the desires on our heart, it’s important not to make praying for your future spouse or your desire for your future husband an idol.
The Bible tells us not to have any gods other than God himself, and when we are focusing on someone or something above God, this is essentially making it an idol which is not pleasing to God and is unhealthy.
If you find yourself starting to become obsessed with thinking about your future husband or praying for your godly husband, it’s best to surrender it to God and take a break for a while.
God wants to grant the desires of your heart, but he also wants you to desire God more than anyone or anything in this world.
And he wants to bless you with your godly husband when you are ready to receive him.
If you become obsessed, worried, or desperate to meet your future husband, you are actually not ready to meet him.
Not sure if you are praying for your future husband or thinking about him too much? Pray and ask God to reveal if you are starting to obsess over your future spouse, and ask a close friend or mentor if they think you need to shift your focus to God.
Surrendering your desires, wants, and expectations for your future husband is hard. But as you pray for your godly husband and over specific areas of his life, make sure you continue to surrender your own desires to God.
Pray and ask God for him to give you his desires for your future husband. Sometimes we may think we know what we want, but God knows what he needs.
And God is the one who knows who your future husband is.
My husband prayed for the longest time that his future wife would be blonde. And my husband wanted a blonde so bad that he was convinced that this was desire was from God and that if a girl wasn’t blonde, then she wasn’t the one.
But in reality, I am a brunette. And for the longest time, my husband had been praying over the wrong desire.
Trust that God will give you his desires for your future husband as you pray and surrender your desires to him.
I waited for an entire year for God to answer my prayers for the guy I liked at church, so I had to constantly surrender my desires and feelings to God.

His relationship with God is the most important thing to be praying for. If your future husband has a strong relationship with God, that will set the foundation for everything else in your relationship. And it is so important to make sure that you are equally yoked and on the same page spiritually.
Pray for his passion to get to know God. Pray that he will wake up every day with the desire to get to know God and spend time with him.
And pray for him to give his entire life to Jesus. Your future husband may not even know Jesus yet! In a world where it’s easy to forget about God, pray for God to soften your future husband’s heart and that he will surrender his life to Jesus.
Example Prayer for a Godly Husband
God, I pray that my future husband knows you and that he has a relationship with you. I pray that he is a man after your own heart, and that his love and passion for you continues to grow. I pray that if he is not saved yet, I pray that you soften his heart and that he will give his life to Jesus. I pray that you show him who you are Lord, and that he experiences your love in a fresh way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Having a healthy level of confidence is a must in a relationship. And a man that is confident and knows who he is? Pretty sexy if you ask me. But if your future husband doesn’t have the confidence to pursue you, he may hold back and not be able to lead you in the relationship like you deserve.
Pray that he has a healthy confidence in who he is. Pray that he is able to pursue you with confidence, and that he doesn’t let fear or doubts hold him back from pursuing you.
Example Prayer for Future Husband
God, I pray that my future husband is confident in who he is and in who you created him to be. I pray that he has the faith and confidence to go after the things he wants. And I pray that he has the confidence to pursue me and ask me out. I come against any doubts or fears that may be holding him back, and I pray that he will be himself as he pursues me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
God will confirm that you and your future husband are meant to be together. Even if you see several signs that he’s the one that God has for you, it is still so important to pray and ask God to confirm that he’s the one.
Pray for God to speak to both of you and that he will confirm your relationship together. Pray for clarity that he’s the one and for God to reveal the timing of when you should get married. And if you have desires for a certain guy right now, pray for God to make it clear to both of you if you aren’t supposed to be together.
Example Prayer for Future Spouse
God, I pray that you confirm the desires on our hearts and that we will know that we are supposed to be together. I pray that you will speak to both of us and will confirm that we are supposed to get married. I pray that he will know with certainty that I am his future wife. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
You don’t know what type of past your future husband has, but as you wait for God to bring you together, you can pray that God will heal anything from his past that may be holding him back.
Pray that God heals him from any past romantic relationships and that all soul ties are broken. Pray that he is healed from any trauma or loss from his childhood or from his parent’s marriage that could be affecting his views on marriage.
Example Prayer for Future Husband
God, I pray that my future husband is healed from his past and that he is ready for a healthy relationship. I break off any ungodly soul ties from his past in Jesus’ name, and I declare healing over any experiences he had in his childhood. I pray that he has a healthy view of marriage, and that he is not afraid to commit or pursue marriage. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Being surrounded with Godly friendships and mentors is important in both yours and your future husband’s life. If your future husband wants to seek God and live set apart as man of God, but his friends are still living in the world, they could tempt him to compromise his relationship with God and draw him further away from God.
Pray that your future husband has close guy friends that also love God and walk in God’s ways. Pray that he has men in his life that he can turn to for Godly advice and wisdom.
Example Prayer for Future Spouse
God, I pray that my future husband is surrounded with godly male influences in his life. I pray that you bring the right friends into his life that also walk in your ways, and I pray that you bring a mentor into his life that can support him and his walk with Christ. And I ask that you remove any friendships that are ungodly or that are holding him back from living the life you have for him. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
