Summer Devotions to Spend Time with God This Summer

Sit back and enjoy these summertime devotions that will make you feel God's peace and rest this summer. Even if you aren't on the beach, these are a few of my favorite summer devotions from God, You, & the Ocean Blue, a 40-day summer devotional, that will make you feel like your relaxing on the beach.

Summer Devotions #1: Seek and Find

Bible Verse

“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

– Jeremiah 29:12-13 NIV

Summer Devotional

We don’t always see the dolphins swimming in the ocean, but we know they are out there. Sometimes the dolphins are jumping and playing around in the waves right in front of us, but we miss seeing them because we aren’t looking for them. Sometimes we are looking in the opposite direction, and sometimes we are too busy scrolling on our phone to see the dolphin show right in front of us.

God’s presence in our lives feels like that at times. Just like God, we know he is out there, but we don’t always see him. Sometimes we may be going about our day, trying to see God, but we aren’t looking in the right direction. And sometimes we are too busy scrolling on our phones or carrying out our to-do lists to notice God moving right in front of us.

And sometimes, you may be looking where you last found God, but he is nowhere in sight.

But God promises to draw close to us when we draw near to him. He wants to be found, and he promises to be found when we seek him with our whole heart.

If you’ve been trying to see God, don’t give up. Keep looking. Keep searching. And just like the dolphin fin that pops out of the water when you least expect it, you’ll see God moving again in your life.

Summer Devotion Prayer

God, I thank you that you want to spend time with me. I desire to see you and hear from you more throughout my day. As I draw close to you, I pray that I feel your presence and love around me like never before. I need you Lord, and I pray that I have more passion to know you. Reveal yourself to me today as I call on you and seek you with my whole heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Summer Devotions #2: God's Masterpiece

Bible Verse

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

– Ephesians 2:10 NLT

Summer Devotional

Have you ever found a sand dollar on the beach? It looks like a large coin made out of a seashell with a starfish-like design on its front. At first, I thought someone must have drawn the design on the seashell, but then I learned that the white sand dollar used to be a living sea creature.

As I find sand dollars on the beach and stare at the pink and orange sunsets every night, I’m in awe of God’s artwork all around us. God is the ultimate artist and he created beautiful things for us to enjoy on the beach.

Just like the beach, you are God’s masterpiece. You are a work of art, created in the image of God and designed with such care and beauty.

God knows every hair on your head, every freckle on your skin, every cell in your body. He knit you together in your mother’s womb—you are a masterpiece and you are wonderfully and remarkably made.

God designed you and intended for you to be beautiful. And he intended for your beauty to shine even more in the details. As you take in the beauty of the beach all around you, thank God for the beauty he created in you and for taking the time to design every detail of your life.

Summertime Devotion Prayer

God, I thank you for creating me as your masterpiece. You are the ultimate artist and I declare that I am wonderfully and remarkably made. Help me see myself like you see me Lord. Thank you for creating me with such care and beauty, and for caring about every detail of my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Summer Devotions #3: Peaceful Waters

Bible Verse

“The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.”

– Psalm 23:1-3 NLT

Summer Devotional

Whenever I feel tired or weary, I meditate on Psalm 23. God my shepherd, I have all that I need and he promises to renew my strength.

Just like a shepherd who protects and provides for his sheep, God protects us and provides our every need. He knows when we are tired and he gives us rest. He knows when we feel exhausted and we feel like giving up.

If you are sitting on the beach or somewhere nice and quiet in your home, you are sitting in the blessing of God’s presence. God wants to lead us to rest and to sit beside peaceful streams every morning as we spend time with him.

If you find yourself on the go today, caught up in the busyness of the day, remember that God will provide moments for you to rest. He will lead you to peaceful waters and he will refresh you.

So, whether you can take a walk outside in nature or even if it means turning off your phone for a few minutes during the day, treat every break and moment of silence as a blessing from God. These quiet moments are a gift and we need to sit with our Father to be refreshed and restored.

Picture yourself walking with Jesus on the beach and let his peace wash over you.

Summer Devotion Prayer

God, you are my shepherd and I have all that I need. I pray for your peace to protect my mind and soul today. Lead me to rest in your presence Lord. Refresh me as I sit with you in silence. Thank you for renewing my strength and my Spirit today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

More Summer Devotions in the Bible

Below are some of my favorite passages in the Bible that you can read as your summer devotions. Sit back and relax and envision Jesus sitting next to you on the beach as you dive into God's Word.

Jesus on the Beach in John 21

Jesus had breakfast with his disciples on the beach in John 21. Read this passage and ask God to reveal the friends or people in your life that he wants you to enjoy more fellowship with this summer. And if you live near a beach, create your own brunch on the beach experience to show love to the people that God puts on your heart.

Jesus Walks on Water in Matthew 14

Even though the disciples were sailing through a storm, this summer devotion about Jesus walking on water is a constant reminder to fix our eyes (and our faith) on Jesus this summer no matter what storms or trials you may be facing. As you read Matthew 14, ask yourself how you can take the next step of faith to trust Jesus with whatever God has placed on your heart.

Time to Celebrate in Ecclesiastes

If you've been working hard and need a reminder that it's okay to take some time off this summer, read Ecclesiastes. Even though this book is written from Solomon's perspective where he concludes that a lot of things in life are meaningless, this book will encourage you to take the time this summer to eat, drink, and enjoy the fruit of your labor with the loved ones around you.

Do you enjoy reading Christian Fiction novels that are full of God's goodness?

Summertime is the perfect season to relax and spend more time reading. If you're a book lover like me, I want to invite you to read One Transforming Love, a Christian Fiction novel that is based on my own testimony of how God transformed my life.

I was caught up in the party and hookup world for far too long, and One Transforming Love shows how God set me free from this lifestyle. I realized that there weren't enough Christian novels that talk about issues that women are dealing with in today's culture (like having sex before marriage and dating guys that aren't Christians), which is why God put it on my heart to share my story in One Transforming Love.

If you want to read a relatable story of how hard it is for women to follow Jesus in today's culture, you'll enjoy One Transforming Love.

Bible Verse Bookmarks for Summer

If you love the beach like me, don't forget to grab a set of beach bookmarks to enjoy your Summer devotions and books this Summer.

Each set of bookmarks comes with 5 bookmarks with a different Bible verse on them that will remind you of God's goodness all summer long.

This 40-day summer devotional includes revelations that God has spoken to me on the beach. Whenever I feel far from God or when I want to feel close to him, he draws me to the ocean. And God speaks to me so powerfully through nature and his beautiful creation all around me at the beach.

Seeing the waves crash along the shore, feeling the sun and ocean breeze on my skin—being on the beach always has a way of making me feel at peace as I appreciate the beautiful beach landscape that God created. It allows me to leave behind any worries and the busyness of the day and just be in God’s presence in nature.
